By the end of the ternary Age, ÃÆ'¶ had merged with e (thats why the Grey Mountains appear as Ered Mithrin and not ÃÆ'â€rÃÆ'¶d Mithrin on the map out to LotR!), but we still need to refer to this sound when discussing ancient Sindarin.
